Our textbook and the other materials we are using in this class were developed for the Open Course Library Project of the Washington State Colleges as part of a Gates Foundation grant. The goal of this project was to create materials that are FREE (on the web) to anyone who wants to use or modify them (and not have to pay $200 for a calculus book). The textbook sections, in color, are available in pdf format at the bottom of this page.

You only need one book, either

Contemporary Calculus I from Lulu.com (click on SHOP then search Contemporary Calculus -- has a red cover) or

Contemporary Calculus: Chapters 0-3 from Amazon.com (search on Contemporary Calculus Hoffman -- has a black gray cover)

The content of both versions is the same, but the page format is different. (A colleague wanted a more mathy format so he redid the Lulu version in Latex.)

The links below are to pdf files. When you click on them, they will be downloaded to your computer. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to open them.
